December 27, 2017

Author unknown
“For a mother is the only person on earth
Who can divide her love among all her children
And each child still have all her love.”

Dolores (Dorie) M. Hanna, 80, of Lancaster, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Irvin Adams and her step-mother, Catherine. She was the loving wife of the late Benjamin L. Hanna, who died in 2003.

Dorie was the love of her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the matriarch that held our family together with love. She was also a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Dorie is survived by her three favorite daughters: Deborah M. Bortle, of Lititz; Donna M. Wennerholt, wife of John C., Jr., of Lancaster; and Dawn M. Shissler, wife of Steven S., of York Haven. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Erica, Erin, John, Jennifer, Lindsey, Christopher, Lauren, and Kathleen; and her great grandchildren: Darren, Nathan, Jayson, Taylor, Brennan, Logan, and Patrick.

Memorial Services for Dorie will be held at 11AM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Feel free to honor Dorie by wearing blue, her favorite color at the service. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorie’s memory to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at the address above or Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

You are a gift Dori!  To say you were “like a mother” is not enough. You were my mother and a grandmother to Garret. You listened to everything. You were so wise and kind and encouraging. I know over the year I was distant, I was dealing with a lot, and you knew it. Having you next door, knowing I could run to you and cry on your shoulder, any time of day, helped me get through so much. I am going to miss you beyond words. I am sad I didn’t get to say goodbye. Wednesday, the door bell rang, and when I got up, no one answered. I laid back down, and there was a “hello”. I know now it was you saying goodbye to me. Say hi to Elvis for me! Give Opal a squeeze. Till we meet again! Love you!! -Sheri
