David L. Binder, 65

November 02, 2017

David L. Binder, 65, of Strasburg passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Moravian Manor.
Born in Doylestown, PA, he was the son of the late Brammer and Sarah Jane (Grisdale) Binder. He was also the loving husband of Melissa (Kelly) Binder with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Dave grew up in Chester Springs, PA, and was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Great Valley High School in 1970, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 with a double major in History and Political Science.
Dave started his financial career with Domestic Finance in Lancaster in 1978. He moved on to Hamilton Bank where he worked as a Credit Analyst and then as Assistant Vice President/Commercial Loans and Business Banking. From there, he worked at Lebanon Valley Bank as an Assistant Vice-President/Loan Review Officer; Downingtown National Bank as Vice-President/Commercial Loan Officer; and, Bank of Lancaster County as Vice-President/Commercial Credit Manager. He finished his career at Susquehanna Bank/BB&T in 2015 as Vice-President/Portfolio Manager/Small Business Lending Unit.
Dave loved his job as a banker and networking with his co-workers. He also enjoyed getting to know his customers and their businesses. He always treated the Bank’s money as if it were his own, and he could always follow the money.
In his younger days, Dave traveled and organized backpacking trips to Denali, the Tetons, and Baffin Island with dear friends.
Dave’s hobbies included cooking, collecting pen knives, pocket watches, coins, and stamps.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lindsay Binder of Lancaster and Erin Binder of Strasburg. Also surviving is a brother, Mark Binder of South Royalton, VT, and a sister, Kathy Fry wife of Jim of Lakeway, TX. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Leigh-Ann Oast.
The family would like to thank the Lancaster General Hospital Nursing Staff and Aides on 7 West who provided excellent care. The family also would like to thank the compassionate staff at Moravian Manor and Hospice for their kindness, all of whom provided Dave with dignity through his last days.
A Visitation for David will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 10AM-12Noon at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Private Interment will be held in Middle Octorara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David’s memory may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund, 1249 Cocoa Ave, Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033.

I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked with Dave at CoreStates and also with Melissa in CoreStates Commercial Loans Dept. We have since moved out of the area but I remember the good times that we all had working together and you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of David’s passing. I grew up next door to David in Charlestown and our families we’re very close. I have many fond and fun memories of him. Sending love and prayers to his entire family during this difficult time.

Melissa – Sorry to read of Dave’s passing. You might remember me from our days at Hamilton Bank. Dave and I were also associates at Hamilton Bank. He was truly a professional that we all learned from. Over the years, like many of us going to other banks, I did not see much of Dave, but his Obituary brought back memories of our time at Hamilton Corestates. Some of the better ones anyway.
I hope that you and your children will trust that you will get through this time and that God will provide many graces to you and your family.
All the Best,
Philip Golden
