Charles Steinman, 85
June 16, 1932 - August 23, 2017
Charles (Chuck) Steinman of Valleybrook Estates, Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, at the age of 85 following a year-long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Doris (Dorie) Ebersole Clark Steinman. Having met on a blind date, they were married for 44 years. He was the son of the late Charles L. Steinman and Bessie E. Steinman of Lancaster.
Chuck was a 1950 graduate of Paradise High School. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, assigned to the Third Armored Division and served the country for eight years. He had retired from the former Trojan Yacht Co. where he worked for forty-two years. During retirement he began a small business, Woodchuck Crafts. He enjoyed designing and creating wooden articles to sell at Root’s Market and craft shows. He was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church. As a previous member of the Manheim Township Lions Club, he served a term as president and received the Melvin Jones award. He was a volunteer for Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster Meals on Wheels, and a Lancaster Food Bank transporter. He had volunteered for the Neffsville Fire Co., the Ephrata Cloisters, the Fulton Opera House, Mt. Gretna Theater, and was a former team leader for the Water Quality Volunteer Coalition. He served on the Valleybrook Association social committee.
Fishing, treasure hunting, and woodworking were his hobbies. He enjoyed extensive travel with his wife, motorhome campouts with Our Gang camping group, ballroom dancing, and playing card and board games with friends. He was keenly interested in all things of nature, birds, and especially eagles.
Charles is survived by his wife, Doris of Lancaster; daughter, Connie Clark, Maryland; son Scott Clark, husband of Lynn, Lancaster; three grandchildren: Tara Lightner, wife of Mathew, Maryland; Adam Clark, husband of Gretchen, Lancaster; Jesse Clark, Lancaster; and great grandson, Demitri Clark, Lancaster. Also surviving is one sister, Dorothy Neff of Quarryville. He is preceded in death by daughter, Patti Clark who passed away in 2000 and sister, Betty Hoar, who passed away in 2016.
A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at Highland Presbyterian Church 500 E. Roseville Road, at 11:00 AM; visitors will be received at 10:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Highland Presbyterian Church or Mennonite Central Committee.
