MIT Lamont Fontaine Alexander, I, 55

MIT Lamont Fontaine Alexander, I, 55, of Lancaster passed away at home on July 30, 2016. He was the husband of Dorthea (Seals) Alexander to whom he was married for 14 years.
Born in Philadelphia he was a son of Barbara (Alexander) Myers of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his father William Long and his step-father who raised him Raymond Myers. Lamont earned his associates degree in Respiratory Therapy and worked as a respiratory therapist with Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia where he was the first and youngest African American respiratory therapist. He was a pillar in the Lancaster community being an advocate for victims against violence and attended many rallies and speeches to promote peace. Lamont loved life, people, touched many lives, loved his family, the Lord and represented love. He was an Eagles sports fan and enjoyed teaching others about culture, faith and was most recently a minister in training under Pastor Louis A. Butcher, Jr. of Brightside Baptist Church where he attended. Lamont also worked alongside Deacon Jerry Everett at Brightside in the Outreach Ministry. Lamont will be forever missed and was affectionately known as Pop-Pop by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Dorthea and mother Barbara, he is survived by his children Lamont F. Alexander, II (Nefferti) and Kilique Wilkes both of Philadelphia, Ryan Seals of Lancaster, Shonda Seals of Lancaster, Nicole Alexander of Philadelphia, Carin Seals, Monique Seals and Tuesday Davis all of Lancaster, Syndey Pernell and Billie Pernell both of Philadelphia; five brothers Keith Alexander (Theresa) and Hadrian Long both of Philadelphia, Raymond Myers, Jr, of Baltimore, MD and Lacy Curtis and Darrin Curtis both of Philadelphia; two sisters Scherherazade “Sherry” Long of Lancaster and Chaloe Long of Philadelphia; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother-in law Richard Seals (Camelia) of Lancaster and six sister-in-laws Danita Dillard (Willie) of Lancaster, Charlene Seals of Baltimore, MD, Claudette Tarrant of Lancaster, Kizzy Brown of Greensboro, NC, Tiffany Walker, Reading, PA Beverly Rozier and Kysha Payne-Word (Clarence) both of Lancaster; a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. Lamont was preceded in death by his son Brandon Seals, a brother Bernal Long, brother-in-law Trenton Seals, two sister-in-laws Crystal and Karen Seals; two Uncles Phillip and James Alexander and two Aunts Janette Alexander and Constance Jamison Glenn, father-in-law Luther W. Hunter and mother-in-law Rebecca Ann Seals.
Home Going Services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11AM from Brightside Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17603. Interment will be held in Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9AM until the time of his Home Going at 11AM at the Church.
