Mary, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I not sure if you remember me. Up until I moved away in 2001, Doug would hunt at my place in Clifton Va quite often, or we would be at your place in Gainesville experimenting with with whatever new ideas and equipment Doug would come up with. I moved back to Fairfax in 2009 and believe it was around 2010/11 I ran into someone who told me of Doug’s tree stand accident since I had moved. Sometime shortly after that I went by the old house in Gainesville and the new owner was actually outside, who was very nice and told me he believed you had moved to SC! I was quite disappointed but happy that you both seemed to get to go build your dream place. I never stopped looking for Doug up to this day, when I found this obit. I will dearly miss him and pray for the best for you both.

Mary,
I am so sorry to hear about Doug. He was such a character and one of my favorite customers. He was so detail conscious with everthing –never left a detail uncovered. Your log home is amazing –only wish I had been able to visit more. I’m sure Doug is now bringing smiles to angels.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Sandy and Larry Wade

Mary: I am so saddened as you are for the loss of Good Ole Doug. He was a great friend and man and always brought a smile to my face. He taught me everything I know about hunting and firearms; in fact when hearing some of my stories several years ago, about showing property and farms to single gentlemen in remote areas and the scares that I had, made me go to Virginia Firearms to get my first .38. I carry it most of the time (in horror to some of my clients!) but at least I am safe. I would never know so much about AMMO without his instruction and guidance. We will all miss him so much. WHAT A GUY! Even now, he puts a smile on my face thinking back of his stories and comments. I hope and pray for the very best for you and the family at this time of sorrow. Please come and visit me at Hidden Oasis if you are in VA. My thoughts are with you. MARE DANIEL

Doug Bowman…. you were such a character and it was always a fun time when Artie and I spent time with you – sure to be full of laughs. You were one of ‘the good guys’. Character and integrity, hardworking are some of the first things that come to mind when I think of you – ‘old school’. We wish we would have made the time to visit you and Mary at your dream home – hard lesson to learn – praying for you Mary, and here if we can help in any way. Sami & Artie, Virginia

I am so sorry for your loss. Doug was one of my best friends. We haven’t seen each other in several years. We just spoke with each other a few months ago and we’re making plans to visit when I came back east. Remembering the fun time we had trapping, fishing, hunting and shooting together. My heart goes out to the family,Doug was a great man. May he rest in peace.
God bless,
Mike Smith
