William “Bill” Neyer, Jr., 83

William P. Neyer, Jr. 83, formerly of Mount Joy and a resident of Brethren Village, Lititz, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Landis Homes, Lititz.
Born in Tremont, PA, he was the son of the late William and Ella (Schell) Neyer.
He was married 59 years to his wife, Esther (Moyer) Neyer. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two sons: Bruce Neyer, husband of Teresa (Urey), of Elizabethtown; and Kevin Neyer, husband of Stephanie (Ream), of Lebanon; three grandsons: Bryan, Brent and Justin; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Mae. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Lee Herr, in 2008.
After graduating from Tremont High School in 1949, he attended Williamson Trade School, Media, PA, majoring in carpentry and architectural drafting, graduating in 1952.
After working in construction for several years, in the Philadelphia Main Line area, he was hired by Paul A. Martin Construction of Mount Joy, doing building estimating for five years. In 1960, he was employed with J.C. Snavely & Sons of Landisville as a production supervisor and roof truss designer. He retired in 1996 after 36 years with the company.
He enjoyed reading, woodworking, traveling, attending auctions and collecting antiques, especially early antique tools. He was a member of Early American Industries Association, Mid-West Tool Collectors Association, local tool clubs and the Mount Joy Historical Society.
Bill and his wife, Esther, were avid antique dealers and collectors, exhibiting in New England and local antique shows for more than 40 years, specializing in 18th and 19th century hearth items, country antiques and early collectors’ tools. On the side, they published a pictorial mail order sales tool catalog for about 10 years, which went to tool collectors nationwide bi-annually. Bill did an extensive research study on John Stamm, the Mount Joy “Church of God” Preacher and Tool Maker, published in the national EAIA Journal in 2001, which can be seen on the internet.
In past years, he was actively engaged in Sunday School and church activities in the Brethren in Christ and Grace Brethren Churches.
A Memorial Service for Bill will be held at 11AM, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Brethren Village chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606, with the Rev. Tim Placeway and the Rev. Clarence Brubaker officiating. Family and friends will be received at the Brethren Village chapel one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Mt. Pleasant Brethren in Christ Cemetery, Mount Joy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to the Brethren Village Auxiliary Fund at the above address.
