Betty J. Barley, 85

Betty J. Barley, 85, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Hamilton Arms. Born in Soudersburg, PA she was the daughter of the late Maurice Everett Harsh, Sr. and the late Frances Barbara (Dippner) Work. Her husband Earl Jacob Barley passed away on December 4, 2003.

Betty was a 1947 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. She was a devoted mother and spent most of her life raising her family. She enjoyed writing poetry, was a very skilled cook and baker, and enjoyed vacationing at the shore especially to Wildwood and Seaside Heights NJ and going to the PA mountains as well as visiting her family in Florida. Betty also loved playing bingo, pinochle and watching movies.

Betty was a lifelong member of Faith UCC in Lancaster.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Kranz, wife of Dennis J., and Diane S. Warfel, wife of Larry E., both of Lancaster; a son, Bruce E. Barley, of Columbia as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice “June” Harsh, two infant twin granddaughters, and stepfather, Landis Kendig Work.

A Funeral Service will be at 11AM on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Faith United Church of Christ, 1204 Wabank Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603 with Pastor John C. Rieker officiating. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Faith United Church of Christ at the above address.
