Kathryn “Kathy” Duschl, 53

May 27, 2014

Kathryn “Kathy” Duschl, 53, of Landisville, took her final journey into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, after a valiant fight against cancer.

Kathy was the daughter of the late Anthony F. and Elizabeth J. Duschl. Kathy is survived by her beloved children, Brittany N. Smith and Corey M. Smith. She is also survived by her siblings: Barbara L. Bisking of San Antonio, TX, Susan M. Charles, wife of Luke, of Holtwood, PA, Robert A. Duschl, husband of Betty A., of Lititz, PA, Jodi L. Martin, wife of Lee, of Manheim, PA, and David J. Duschl, husband of Beate, of Lancaster, PA.

Kathy graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1979 and Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1984. Kathy worked for Lancaster General Hospital and Women & Babies Hospital as an operating room nurse and a Risk Manager. She also worked at Thornberry as a Clinical Systems Specialist.

Kathy enjoyed travel and adventure. Travels included her dream trip to Australia/New Zealand/Fiji, various cruises, trips to Europe, as well as State side travel. She also enjoyed spending time at Lake Mokoma with her Uncle Jack and Aunt Jean Baker of Easton, MD. Kathy was a bit of a daredevil as she made 31 skydives, hiked to the summit of Mt. Washington and started riding a motorcycle at age 50. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with friends, star gazing from her hot tub, fishing and dancing (especially German dancing).

She was a member of Calvary Church, Star Chapter 343 Motorcycle Riding Club and the Lancaster Liederkranz.

Kathy also loved volunteering. She served in the kitchen for Family nights at church, was a big sister with BBBS, a hospice volunteer, helped with the fests at the Liederkranz as well as the Sertoma Chicken BBQ. She also had the privilege of serving on a short term medical mission trip in a Panamanian rainforest.

A viewing will be from 6-8 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. To.Kathy’s Family,  it was many years ago, that your mom and I spent many days hanging out together. I went to school  at Burrowes Elementary  with Kathy.  I lived on Nassau Road, and Kathy and I spent many days after school and during the summer together. iI lost touch with Kathy when she went to Catholic High, and I went to J.P. McCaskey. i remember havingmany sleepovers with Kathy at her Aunt Elsie’s house.  Not sure if i got the name correct of the Aunt whom we had many  fun nights together . I am truly saddened. to learn of her passing. and my  heartfelt sympathy to all the family.  Karen Dungan Stepanchick.

Brittany,  Corey, family and friends;  I am so sorry and offer my sincere condolences to all of you.  I met Kathy at a nursing conference in Orlando almost ten years ago and we remained friends.  She was an amazing woman and a joy to know.  She loved and appreciated everyone so much.  I will miss her dearly and look forward to catching up with her again some day.  Big hugs to you all,

Dear Brittany, Corey and all Kathy’s family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you.
Kathy was very special to me. She visited us in Florida with Nana when she was 12 yrs old.  When she was in High School she stayed with us in Germany for a few days.  She made a trip to Arizona for Doug and Paola’s wedding.  There were countless times she stayed with me in Monongahela and I cherish all these times.  i will miss our phone calls and emails. I will miss you, Kathy.

Dear Brittany and Corey and all our nieces and nephews,
We send our deepest sympathy to all of you in the loss of your mother and sister. In this very difficult time for you, we share the loss of your beloved Kathy. We will always cherish her week-long visit with us last year at our summer home. We hiked a nearby mountain together – a strenous six-hour trip up and down – together with other adventures. We will always hold in our memory Kathy’s warm personality and her bubbly charm. We will miss you, Kathy!

Dear Brittany and Corey, all my cousins and their spouses and Kathy’s nieces and nephews,
We were so very sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. Ours prayers go out for Kathy and to your entire family at this difficult time. Our family is a large one spread out in many directions, and many of us don’t see each other very often. So I consider myself fortunate to have been able to spend a little bit of time with Kathy, Brittany and Corey earlier this year. During that short amount of time I saw a woman who was facing her illness with courage and even humor at times. I saw that she raised a fine young man and woman. “Live life to the fullest” may be a cliche but Kathy certainly did that. And Corey and Brittany-it seems like you are following in your moms footsteps. I’m sure that makes her happy and proud.
God Bless,
your cousin Sandi(Dorsey) May and family, Jon, Neil & Anna

T0 Brittnay, Corey & Family,  My deepest sympathy for the loss of your Mom, sisters, brothers, & relatives.
I worked with Kathy at LGH/OR for several years. I also visited with her at Calvary Church. She was so active
and enjoyed life. The last time we spoke she was happy to be riding her motorcycle with her riding club. She will
be missed and I know she is singing with the Angels in heaven. We will see her again in eternity. May God bless
each of you at this difficult time. Stan and Lorraine Kemery

To Kathy’s family & friends – you have deepest sympathies.  You are in our thoughts & prayers.  We rode motorcycles with Kathy.  We admired her willingness to keep going, desire to absorb all that life could offer and her courage.  She never wanted the focus to be on herself and her illness.  When most people would have resigned to being sick she chose to live life to the fullest.  May we all remember to do that every day.  Well done, Kathy, well done.  Dan & Diane Fox

To Kathy’s family,
We had the wonderful privllege of knowing Kathy from working in the kitchen on Wednesday evenings at Calvary Church; such a burst of energy and a delightful happy person.  Please accept our sincere sympathy ~ we shall see her again someday in eternity – PTL.  We care,  Sally/Gordon Landis

Dear Brittany & Cory,
I am so sorry about the loss of your mom.  Kathy was my cousin and I’ve known her all my life.  It is so hard to believe she is gone.  I knew your mom to be devout in her faith and love of the Lord.  I talked to her about her love of travel and the many places she visited and hoped to see in the future.  I also was alway struck by how active she was.  I remember running into her at Mount Gretna a while ago.  I had driven there; she had ridden her bike!  But most of all, I know how much she loved you both and was so proud of you.  I know this is such a difficult time for you, and I wish you strength and comfort through the many days ahead.
Take care,
Carol Dorsey
