Obituaries

Scott Wilhelm Bronner, 49

August 17, 2013

Scott Wilhelm Bronner ran into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 17, after a 20 year battle with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. He is survived by his loving wife Taeko and three amazing sons Yujin, Joji, Nowa. He is also survived by his father Ralph, and brothers Mark (and Amy) and Eric (and Halli), and he was preceded in death by his mother Gisela. Wonderfully kind and deeply caring, Scott had a passion to share the love of Jesus with everyone he met, especially with internationals. He and Taeko have graciously hosted a Friday International Gathering, and he taught English as a second language at Harrisburg Area Community College for the past five years. Gentle and giving, Scott was a remarkable Renaissance man. This obituary could fill these columns espousing Scott’s volunteer activities, advanced degrees at Carnegie Melon and UW-Milwaukee, creative teaching abilities in Japan and Lancaster, oboe playing, unique sense of fashion, mission work in China, etc. But Scott would only want you to know one thing: like all of us, he was a sinner who is fully restored and redeemed only because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The family prays that you all find the peace of Jesus within your hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will start at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at The Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster PA 17601. A viewing will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 am at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in Scott’s memory to: Commission to Every Nation (www.cten.org/scottbronner/).

Condolences to the Family

Although its been almost a year since Scott went to be with Jesus, I only just found out about his passing.   I knew Scott back at Carnegie Mellon in the early 1980’s, but I wouldn’t come to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior until almost 20 years later.   I had googled his name in 2008, and saw what he was doing in with his life and his service to Jesus, and I had always meant to try contact him to come and visit my little church in Western Pennsylvania and speak about the ministry he was part of.   Sadly, life was always too busy, and I never found the time.    As someone who has also struggled with panic attacks and anxiety, it makes me wish even more that I could have found the time to talk with him, so that we could have tried to understand why Jesus doesn’t always take away every thorn in our flesh as soon as He saves us.   That conversation will have to wait to some future time, when Jesus will be standing there to help us understand the trials and pains of our old lives, and to wipe away every tear.   I’ll be praying for your continued comfort and healing.

Dear Taeko and Sons,
Scott loved his family and everyone God put in his path, and he was well loved.  Scott was one of the most genuine, kind-hearted people we have known.  He blessed us when he offered to visit our exchange student, Akiko, upon her return to Japan.  The timing did not work, but his desire was so thoughtful.  He truly saw pepole through the eyes of Christ.  You are in our prayers.  May God’s grace, strength and peace rest upon your family.
Revelation 14:13:   Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

Dear Taeko,
I remember Scott’s heart to win internationals for Christ even when we all attended church together in Milwaukee when you guys were still dating, and then as newlyweds. He has always been so kind, outgoing and fun loving. I greatly admired him and his heart to serve others, and in doing so, please God.
I am praying for you and your sons and all of the Bronner family and all of those who are close to you, that the God of All Comfort would indeed comfort you now as only He can.

Dear Taeko and Family:
It is with the deepest regret that we read the news. Words cannot express the loss we are feeling and we can only imagine the grief you must be going through. Scott was a highly considerate and gentle person and left a special joy in everyone he met. We can only take comfort knowing he is in a better place. Our heart goes out to you and the boys. We wish you courage and will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Taeko, Yujin, Joji, Nowa, and other members of the Bronner family,
It was a great privilege for me to have known Scott personally for about twenty-seven years. I was impressed by his vision and passion to reach out to international students: in one-on-one conversations, in English language classes, in public talks, in missions prayer meetings, and in Friday International Gatherings. I hope that other people will continue his work. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Bronner family,  I have never met Scott, only conversed with him by phone several times concerning various students.  Always impressed with his love and concern for each of the international students.  The Friday Night Gatherings are truly a lifeline for these kids.  Who would commit every Friday nite to open their home to reach out to students to share the love of Jesus?  A special and annointed couple to be sure.   Scott will be missed by many,  the ripple effect of his life and love for Christ will live on.
Taeko,  I would love to meet you one day.  Many prayers come your way.
Sympathies to Taeko, Yujin, Joni, and Nowa.

I did not know Scott, but I want to say that his obituary is the most beautiful I have ever read and it brough tears to my eyes.  Thank you for being a witness to the power, love, and peace of Jesus Christ in this manner.  I pray it will touch everyone who reads it, as it did me.  May God bless your family with comfort and healing during this time of loss.  Julie

Dear Taeko and sons,
I was very sorry to hear of your loss of Scott. I taught Joji and Nowa in middle school, and was always impressed with your family. I was 28 when I lost my father, and it is always too soon to lose someone you love. My heart is with you. May time accomplish what no words can do, and give some measure of comfort to you.

Although I hadn’t seen Scott in a number of years, I kept up with him through social media and his ministry newsletters.  He was very special and will be missed.  I keep his family in my prayers.  He had such a good heart, and a good sense of humor, he touched all he came in contact with.
