Margaret K. McKaig, 88
Margaret K. McKaig, 88, of The Manor at Willow Valley Retirement Community, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012. Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Catherine (Whynn) Kirlin.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, E. Vernon McKaig, in 2007.
Margaret graduated from The Visitation Academy in Frederick, MD. She met her husband while she was a secretary at The Pyrites Company, where Mr. McKaig was employed after returning from serving in the Army in Europe during World War II. Later, Margaret and Vernon worked for the E.I. DuPont Company in Wilmington.
Margaret was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
She loved socializing at Willow Valley and enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and discussing politics. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. She and her husband were season ticket holders to the Eagles and Phillies, as well as subscribers to the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years. In retirement, Margaret also enjoyed traveling. Each year she looked forward to excursions with Vernon to Vermont, Williamsburg, and Florida, as well as their trips to Europe, US National Parks, or cruises with friends.
She is survived by a son, Robert T. McKaig, husband of, Loretta “Lori” P., of Philadelphia, a daughter, Ann M., wife of Michael J. O’Brien, of Lancaster, ten grandchildren, Robert (Lauren), Christine (Tim), Matthew, Kathleen (Kevin), Kevin (Shannon), Thomas (Lauren), Anne, Christopher, Katherine, and Thomas, and two great grandchildren, James and Ryan, and a sister in law, Vivian Newlin. She was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Newlin.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Margaret’s Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pk., Lancaster, PA 17603 with The Rev. Edward Rauch O.S.F.S. as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551 from 9-10:30AM on Tuesday. Interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery Wilmington, DE.
