Charles L. “Chuck” Milles, Jr., 78
Charles L. “Chuck” Milles, Jr., 78, of Kirkwood, died Friday, June 10, 2011 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Ruth O. (Batey) Milles. He was the husband of Janice L. Fahler, whom he married on September 21, 1963.
Charles graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago where he was in the ROTC program and graduated as Captain. Upon graduating, he received a letter of accommodation for his dedication to ROTC. In 1992, he graduated from Wheels Safety First Driver Training and completed training through the State of Delaware Emergency Planning & Operations.
For many years, he volunteered at a Chicago firehouse and was a member of International Fire Code Institute.
Chuck served our country by enlisting in the United States Navy during which he was stationed in California and the Great Lakes.
Until his retirement in 1994, he was employed for many years at Bayer Chemical Company where he was Supervisor of the warehouse inventory and safety.
He volunteered and worked at Colerain Township as a part of the emergency management team. Chuck attended St. Paul’s Church in Quarryville, PA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s Church, 1 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17556 with Rev. Michael Johnson and Pastor Ed Saul officiating. Chuck was very dedicated to his position as Colerain Twp. Emergency Management Coordinator. During floods, windstorms, fires, etc. he was always willing to check on the situation and make sure the residents were safe and taken care of. Few people in the township realized the hours he put in for training and assuring that they were safe and cared for.
I wish his family the very best during this trying time.
