Anita S. Brown, 86

Anita S. Brown, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, August 13 2010 at the Arbor View of Willow Valley Retirement Community. She was born in East Orange, NJ to the late Hendrik and Rose (Voorman) Snel.

Anita is survived by her husband Donald V. Brown of Willow Valley. They were married for over 63 years.

She graduated from the New Jersey State Teachers College and received her Master’s Degree from Columbia University in New York. She was an avid volunteer in many capacities, including education, hospitals, and teaching English to newcomers from out of the country.

Anita lived with diabetes for 79years and was recognized by the Joslin Clinic of Boston for successfully coping with the disease for the majority of her life.

She was formerly an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Quarryville, PA.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Rev. Dr. Sally A. Brown, wife of Peter T. Dunbar, of Mohnton, PA, a son, Rev. Timothy J. Brown, husband of Jean P.,of Edgerton, MN, grandchildren, David N. Brown, husband of Soo R., of New York City, Donald W. Brown, husband of Kristina H., of Arlington, VA, Rachel B. Zaagman, wife of Steven, of Grand Rapids, MI, Sarah E. Brown, of Ann Arbor, MI, and a niece, Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Kennard, of Storrs, CT. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jacobus “John” Snel and a nephew, James Snel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday August 17, 2010 at 2pm at the Orr Auditorium of Willow Valley, 211 Willow Valley Square Lancaster, PA 17602. Rev. Timothy J. Brown and Rev. Dr. Sally A. Brown will officiate along with Rev. Charles Cummings. Interment will be private at the Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady, NY.
