John Frank Bowman, 87
John Frank Bowman, 87, of Lancaster died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital after a two year battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late David B. and Loretta Ganse Bowman. John was the husband of Ruth A. Brown Bowman and they were married July 1, 1950.
John was an electrician and a member of Local 414 IBEW. He retired in 1985 after 37 years of service with various contractors.
He was a graduate of Hershey Industrial School Class of 1941. He served in the US Navy during World War II as an Electrician Mate First Class, plank owner of USS Macon CA 132.
John was a member of Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society. He enjoyed softball, golf, fishing and hunting. He was a life long Pittsburgh Pirate Fan.
Surviving besides his wife is a son, Michael D. husband of Susan E. Bowman, Lancaster, two grandsons: Stephen and Jonathan, a brother: David husband of Midge Bowman, Seattle, Washington, and a sister, Katherine wife of Thomas Marinaro, Lancaster.
John was preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy Bennawit, Elizabeth Hess, Edna Briand, and Anne Brooks.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00AM with the Rev. Warren Riedel officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA on Thursday at 1:30PM. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10-11:00AM. Please omit flowers.
