James P. Hendricks, 81
James P. Hendricks, 81, of Lancaster, died Friday, December 5, 2008 at Brethren Village. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late James Albert and Edith M. Riale Hendricks. He was the husband of Betty Reese Hendricks and they were married for 59 years. Mr. Hendricks was an automobile refinisher, and worked for Mohn Brothers Buick in the 1940’s-1950’s, Jones Pontiac in the 1960’s and James F. Wild from late 1970’s to 1980’s.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In 1975, Jim joined the Neffsville Fire Department, he was sworn in as fire police Jan 12, 1976. He was the Financial Secretary from 1977-1986 and was Vice President in 1987 and a Trustee from 1993-2008. He was Fire Police Captain from 1977 to 1992 and Fire Police Lt. from 1993-2003 and Fire Police Captain Emeritus in 2004.
Surviving besides his wife, Betty, is a daughter Cindy A. wife of Mike Templeton of Lititiz, four granddaughters: Lynn Mull, Jennifer Templeton, Bethany Templeton, and Laura Oberle and four great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lititz Pike and Delp Road, Lancaster on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 1:00PM. with Rev. Craig Ross officiating. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. There will be a viewing from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the church on Tuesday. Honors will be rendered by the Neffsville Fire Department and the Red Rose Honor Guard. Please omit flowers. I was saddened to see the passing of Jim. The last time I saw him was at Mike Hearns services and was glad I got a few moments to talk with him then. We had many hours together on fire calls. He was a great guy to work with and I know he will be missed.
