Shirley Peterson Lowery is now joyfully with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all eternity, having passed from this life on October 29, 2026 in her 90th year.
She grew up in Tinley Park, Illinois with her parents Elmer and Christina (Renwick) Peterson. Shirley married James R. Lowery in 1954. They made a wonderful team parenting two daughters, Deborah Jean, married to John Douglas Hodges, and Donna Joy, married to Cecil Burt Duren.
Shirley is predeceased by her best friend and husband Jim. Shirley leaves behind four grandchildren: James Andrew Hodges, Elisa Hodges Godoy, Thomas Lawrence Hodges and Christopher Erich Duren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Shirley was endlessly creative, clever, and resourceful, with a talent for professional floral design and a lifelong love of gardening. An accomplished seamstress, she was especially skilled at designing and creating beautiful, custom-fitted clothing, making women of all shapes and sizes feel beautiful. Her artistic interests also included oil painting, sculpture, and knitting. Always willing to help others, Shirley served as a Girl Scout and 4-H leader and taught Sunday school for decades. Proud of her Scottish and Swedish heritage, she and Jim spent many happy years traveling throughout the country researching family history and compiling books of photographs, documents, and genealogical records.
Shirley will be dearly missed, but her family finds comfort in the promise of eternal reunion through Christ. Funeral arrangements will be private.
