Dorothy J. Sollenberger, 96
September 07, 2025
Dorothy Sollenberger was born on May 19,1929 in Salisbury, PA. and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 7, 2025. She was the daughter of the late George Floyd and Mary Lena Studd. Dorothy had 3 sisters and one brother: Margaret Mast and William Studd preceded her in death while sisters, Charlotte Shannon and Rae Skiles survive her.
Dorothy graduated from Salisbury High School and soon after married her sweetheart, Harold Sollenberger. Harold R. Sollenberger (who passed away in June of 2025) and Dorothy might hold a record for the longest New Year’s resolution. Seventy-six years ago, they promised to love, honor and cherish one another in marriage on January 1, 1949. They kept that promise and built a family legacy along the way.
They raised three children: Carl R. Sollenberger (wife is Karen Charles Sollenberger), the late Donna Jean Heijermans (wife of Robert Henry Heijermans) and Jere H. Sollenberger (wife is Alyssa Gleason Sollenberger). Dorothy was blessed to also have 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandkids.
Dot was very involved with Pequea Baptist Church, along with her husband, as they raised their family. Mom was a teacher, a secretary, and a treasurer at the church. She enjoyed singing in the choir. These activities brought her great joy in serving God and others.
Mom also enjoyed opening her home to others for card games, holidays or just snacks and good discussions. Mom was a gifted pie and cake baker, at least to our taste buds! Gardening was another hobby she loved to pursue, whether it was growing flowers or vegetables. Our Mom enjoyed both, but maybe she liked the vegetables a bit more since she was able to preserve them or eat them fresh from the garden.
Mom was a lunch lady for Garden Spot High School and then a bank teller for Blue Ball National Bank. Her personality and smile made you feel comfortable coming to her window and her workers appreciated her caring heart.
Dorothy’s final days were at Garden Spot Village where she enjoyed walking the halls, playing bingo and talking to the other residents. She was loved and cared for by a wonderful staff of people.
Since Dot was a very social person, a family social gathering will be scheduled for a later date. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA 17557.

September 11, 2025
Memories are flooding our hearts from previous years living next door to Dot and Solly. Over thoes years we shared laughter, advice, recipes, tears, helping hands and so much more. Thankful that they were part of our lives and the memories we will carry.
Our condolence to Carl and Jerry and their families as this has been a hard year for all of them. There is a joy knowing our Lord. Solly, Dot and Donna will be reunited in our permanent home when the Lord comes, may we all have that knowledge, understanding and faith. Gene and Viki Eberly
