Vera K. Eckert, 102, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at United Zion Retirement Community.
She was the daughter of the late Sidney A. Mickler, Sr. and Lucy M. (Spreitzer) Mickler. She was the loving wife of the late Donald M. Eckert. They would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on April 18th.
Vera was born and raised in Palm Valley, FL. During World War II, she proudly served her country in the US Army, a chapter of her life she held with quiet strength and honor. While in Florida, she met the love of her life, Donald, who was stationed there in the Navy. The two married and eventually made their home in Lancaster, PA, where they built a life together and remained ever since. Vera was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church for nearly 70 years, a place that meant so much to her. She found happiness in the everyday—cooking meals, gardening, and working on crafts. More than anything, Vera cherished time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Karen (James) Commins, Jr., Kathryn (Eugene) Wanenchak, Bruce (Michelle) Eckert, and Robert (Tina) Eckert; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Zachary), Mark (Megan), Laura (Keith), Kiel (Emily), Eric (Mya), Susan (Josh), Andrew (Tayna), Micaela (Ethan), Timothy (Meka), and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Jeremy, Nolan, Charlotte, Luke, Hudson, Caleb, John, Isabella, C.J., Edward, and Vincent; and her brother, Robert Mickler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and siblings, Mary Votour, Susan Hall, Edna Fifer, Sidney Mickler, Jr., Rita McCue, June Shimp, Leland Mickler, and Betty Baumli.
Friends and family will be received for a time of visitation from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, PA 17543. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow beginning at 11AM. Burial will be held at Brunnerville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
