Theodor Pierre "Teddy" Lyet, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Lancaster Nursing & Rehab following progressive health challenges. Born in Lancaster, he was the youngest of three sons of the late J. Paul Lyet II and Dorothy L. Lyet.
Predeceased in death by his sister Juliette Summy, wife of the late Jay, Ted is survived by siblings Suzanne Ollar, wife of Peter; Victor Phillipe, and J. Paul Lyet III MD, husband of Kathleen all who live in the Lancaster area.
From childhood, Ted was always actively engaged with activities at home and with friends he made easily at the Occupational Development Center (ODC) and later at Ephrata Area Rehab (EARS) where he worked for over 25 years. In spite of IDD challenges from birth, Ted's ability to complete tasks and constructively enlist others was remarkable. In his earlier years Ted routinely mowed the yard on his Cub Cadet and rarely missed a spot. He was the first to grab a spade and plant flowers in spring. Ted and brother Victor were founding residents at Homefields in Millersville, a model group home sustained by its successful CSA farming endeavors. There he actively assisted with selected farming activities and was always prepared to make repairs with his impressive collection of tools.
Teddy thoroughly enjoyed bowling, playing drums and cooking, especially steaks and hot dogs on the grill. He collected cameras, unique workshop and office equipment found only at flea markets. Every piece had its place. On personal preferences, never one with a sweet tooth, Ted loved pickles and ham & cheese subs. Teddy could light up a room at any gathering. He will be dearly missed by many!
A private memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced in advance. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Teddy's memory may be made to Homefields, 150 Letort Rd, Millersville, PA 17551.
