Sarah A, Evans, 86, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 1, 20260 She was the devoted wife of the late Robert L- Evans, who preceded her in death in 1985. Born in Three Springs, PA, she was one of 15 children to the late John and Margaret (Holden) McMonigal.
Mrs. Evans was employed as a production worker for Penn Dairies for 20 years, and later worked at Hummers Meats at the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market retiring when she was 75.
She had great love for her sister Theresa, going to Bingo in her earlier years and Casinos in later with Theresa and their friends, always hoping to win big! She also enjoyed her visits to the beer distributor for her cigarettes and daily lottery tickets
She was always there when one of us needed something she would watch a house full of kids so appointments could be met. Her ears would always listen through the good times and tough times to us. When it was time for her to not be on her own, she moved in with her niece but she was promised that we would get her back to her condo and we did exactly a year ago. She showed up at every family event and holidays. She watched her great-great niece grow, giving her monies behind our backs, teaching her how to scratch lottery tickets, and school pick-ups. She loved all 31 seasons of Perry Mason and game show network. She never figured out a remote or cell phone but now those moments I will always treasure.
Everyone called her Aunt Sarah. When she introduced herself to someone, she would say "Hi I'm Aunt Sarah!" She loved her fast break Reese's, thin peppermint patties and peanut butter Tandy cakes, and her soft sugar cookies. They were her daily routine. There are still 9 boxes plus her drawer full of candies. When she was in our home, she always said she cleaned her plate, but that was because she gave the dogs her leftovers.
In her later adventures, she went to the beach with her "Always Freezing" sweatshirt on and sat in one of the accessible beach chairs so could get some sun. We even had a man trying to pick us up, what memories that we would laugh at.
She would take her eye out for anyone that wanted her to, and kids always thought that was amazing!
We all are so lucky to have an Aunt like her. She now is at peace with our Heavenly Father, and he gained a new Angel. Her snacks, cigarettes, and a lottery ticket went with her.
She left behind 4 siblings, George, Nell , Helen, and her baby Brother Berni. Also Numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, 2026 at 12:00pm in Bird in Hand Methodist Cemetery, 2620 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird in Hand, PA 17505.
