Sandy L. Campbell, 76, of Willow Street, PA, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Lancaster General Hospital. She shared 47 years of married with her husband Howard “Howie” J. Campbell before his passing in 2018.
Born in Lancaster, PA, Sandy was the daughter of the late Roy M. and Florence (Sangrey) Gerlach. She graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School, Class of 1967, and completed nursing school through LGH and worked as an LPN. After marriage, she worked a variety of jobs including packaging and shipping for The Jay Group for 15 years.
Sandy and Howie were among the first families to join Lampeter Church of the Brethren, and their daughter Jennifer was the first baby born in the new congregation. Sandy taught Sunday school and Kids Club, and she donated to the food bank through church.
She was a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, traveling to Switzerland with the troop in 1995. Sandy enjoyed volunteering with the Power Packs Project, the Main Street Closet and at her church. She loved picnicking and sitting around the “Ring of Fire” (fire pit) with her family, square dancing with Howie earlier in their marriage, shows at Sunset Park, vacationing at Rehobeth Beach each Fall, collecting local post cards, a love for turtles, and rooting for the Phillies. She was known for her generosity, kindness, and sense of humor.
Sandy’s family includes her daughter Jennifer L. Campbell and her longtime boyfriend Rob Sample; three siblings, Wanda Rosser, LuAnn Campbell (Robert), and Roy Gerlach (Jenelle); her three brothers-in-law, Mahlon Campbell (Cindy), Jerry Campbell, and Barry Campbell. She also loved her grand-kitty Sadie; furry nieces Henri and Kitty; and her human nieces, nephews, and their children.
In addition to her parents and husband Howie, Sandy was predeceased by her brother Charles Gerlach, and her sister-in-law Jackie Minnich.
A viewing will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm with The Rev. Christopher Shelly officiating, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
