Sally Howell Matz

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Sally Howell Matz, age 90, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Lititz, PA.

Born to William and Liona Howell, Sally was a dedicated elementary teacher who served communities in New York, Colombia and Norwalk. She was a woman of many passions—an avid quilter, a talented cook, an art collector, and a devoted member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren. She also served as President of the Cragsmoor Historical Society, where she was instrumental in preserving the Cragsmoor Stone Church.

Sally was the anchor of her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Chuck of 60 years, as well as her parents, her stepmother, and her brothers, Peter and Arthur.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela; her son, David; five grandchildren; great-granddaughter; and her brothers, William Holden, David Howell and Andy Odell.

A celebration of her life will be held in Cragsmoor, NY at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Cragsmoor Historical Society: Cragsmoor Historical Society
