Ryan Matthew Herr

Ryan Matthew Herr, 50, formerly of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and London, England, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Boynton Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Ryan was the son of Donald E. “Don” Herr of Lancaster and the late Kathy L. “Kate” (Slaymaker) Herr.

Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University, where he pledged and became a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began his career in finance with M&T Bank, first working in Pennsylvania before moving to Denver, Colorado, where he continued with the bank while completing his master’s degree at the University of Denver.

Ryan later transitioned into the shipping-container industry and moved to Shanghai, China, where he served as director of ContainerAuction.com. He eventually moved to London, England, where he met and married Tara Collins. Together, Ryan and Tara enjoyed traveling and spending time at Tara’s family business in Lapland. Tara preceded him in death in 2024.

Ryan was raised in the Methodist faith and attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed fishing and reading and was particularly passionate about history. A devoted history buff, Ryan had a special interest in World War II and spent considerable time researching the places where his maternal grandfather served in the U.S. Army.

Ryan will be lovingly remembered by his father, Donald E. “Don” Herr, husband of Deb (Mellinger) Herr, of Lancaster; his sister, Chrissy (Herr) Robinson and her companion, Paul Clark, of Ronks; his nephew, JD Robinson and his companion, Cheyenne; his niece, Riley Robinson; his stepbrothers, Matthew Mellinger and Michael (Tina) Mellinger, and Michael’s and Tina’s children, Emily, Hunter, and Brody Mellinger, and Ryan’s good friend Sarah Aungst.

Ryan will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His curiosity, love of history, enjoyment of travel and memories shared with family and friends will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

A Celebration of Ryan’s Life with Pastor Eddie Santiago-Adams officiating will take place Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 2:00 pm, followed by a time of refreshments and visitation, at DoubleTree Resort, 2400 Willow Street Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602.
