Rosa Mae Hinton

Rosa Mae (Thomas) Hinton of Lancaster, Pa, entered into rest at home surrounded by her family on June 22, 2026. She was the wife of the late Henry Hinton who preceded her in death on March 1, 2016, which was their 57th wedding anniversary.

Born in McBee S.C, she was the daughter of the late Dave Thomas Sr., and the late Carrie Mae (Wylie) Thomas. She moved to Lancaster, Pa during the great migration where she remained until the time of her death. She graduated from McBee SC public schools. She retired from Flexsteel Industry in1998 after 30 years of work as a seamstress.

Rosa Mae was a Godly woman, a praying woman. She was raised in the Baptist church, as a member of Shady Grove Baptist church in McBee, SC., and later became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Lancaster Pa where she sang on the Gospel Choir, and served as a missionary. Later and until the time of her death Rosa Mae was a Jehovah’s Witness, where she valued doing field service and fellowship with members.

Rosa Mae loved her family and treasured her time with them. Rosa Mae was a servant at heart, she loved helping where she could, serving as Mother, Nanny and Confidant to many.

Rosa Mae leaves to cherish and honor her legacy of love and faith to her six children: Clifford Thomas (Margret) of South Carolina, Susan H. “Lott,” Hinton, Lancaster, Pa, Anita Rowles (Alvin Rowles) of North Carolina, William B. “Jimmy,” Hinton (Arlene McFadden), Karen Hinton-Polite (Nelson, Jr.), Kymmee A. Hinton, all of Lancaster, Pa; and siblings: Reverend James Thomas (Carolyn-deceased), Lancaster, Pa, Carrie Mae Ewell of Ohio, Lavern Thomas (Ruth) Lancaster, Pa.

She leaves a legacy of her beloved 31 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; she leaves the legacy of her name to her great granddaughter Myla Rose, and great great granddaughter Skylee Rose. She also leaves to cherish memories a cousin Thomas “TJ” Thomas, the last and eldest of her generation. In addition, she leaves to remember her a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rosa Mae was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy L. “Kat” Hinton, grand daughters Tanisha Hinton and Latausha Wilson; and siblings Mae Ella Dixon, Elizabeth Hough, Sarah Blackwell, Dave Thomas Jr., Rufus Thomas, and Randy Dixon.

The Jehovah Witnesses will hold a memorial service for Rosa Mae at a later date as established by the Elders.

A Funeral Service honoring Rosa and her legacy will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike Lititz, PA at 12 PM. A viewing will be held from 10 AM – 12 PM. Interment will take place at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
