Robert Allen Barber, 81, passed away on the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026, at Landis Homes in Lititz.
Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 3, 1944. He graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible in 1966. During college, he worked at Camp Sankanac where he met his wife, Sandy, who would be his wife of 57 years. Bob continued his studies at Dallas Theological Seminary where he graduated with a Master's of Theology. In 1970, Bob and Sandy joined Bible Centered Ministries International as missionaries. They would live and minister in their adopted homeland of Scotland for 40 years.
During their ministry in Scotland, Bob and Sandy worked with children and youth and led training to equip children's ministry volunteers. Bob regularly traveled across Scotland working with various churches and encouraging leaders. In the midst of his busy ministry schedule, he was also a devoted husband to Sandy and loving father to Esther and Tim Barber.
After the Iron Curtain fell in 1989, Bob and Sandy began traveling to Eastern Europe several times each year to serve, train and encourage pastors and ministry leaders. Over the next twenty-five years, they took more than fifty month-long trips spanning ten countries. Their ministry continues today through thousands of local children's ministry leaders scattered across Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Albania, and more.
Bob was preceded in death by Sandy and is mourned by his children: Esther Zimmerman (David), and Timothy Barber (Sarah). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Shawn, Eric, Emily, Timmy, Deidre, Rebekah, Daniel, and Abigail and great-granddaughter Alora, as well as his extended family.
A celebration of life service will take place at GracePoint Evangelical Free Church, 740 Leon Ave, Palmyra, PA 17078, on Saturday, March 21, at 11am.
