Richard Andrew “Rich” Schmeck, 64, of Lititz, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on February 25, 2026. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Gertrude (Rathman) Schmeck and the late Richard S. Schmeck. He was married 38 years to his beloved wife, Terri Hicks Schmeck.
Rich was a 1979 graduate of Central Catholic High School and obtained an associate’s degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University. He served honorably in the US Army from 1979-1985 and worked for PennDOT for 32 years until his retirement. He was a passionate cook who believed the kitchen was the heart of the home. For Rich, food was more than nourishment, it was storytelling, connection, and celebration. An avid international traveler, Rich embraced discovering new cultures, cuisines, and histories. He could spend hours recounting stories of European empires, revolutions, monarchies, and more.
He savored life’s simple pleasures: a well-packed cigar, a thoughtfully chosen glass of wine, and unhurried conversations during happy hours. Music was also at the center of his world, and few things brought him more joy than listening to his favorite Rolling Stones songs. Even in quiet moments, Rich found joy tending to his garden, watching his favorite sitcoms, or cheering on Philadelphia sports teams.
In addition to his mother and wife, Rich is survived by 3 children: Lauren Schmeck Fenimore (Ryan), Elisa Renee Schmeck (fiancée Aidan Burke), and Richard Thomas Schmeck; and 3 brothers: Eric Schmeck (Mary), Byron Schmeck (Robin), and Col. Derek Schmeck (Amy); as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Guests are invited to visit from 2-4 PM on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with a memorial service to begin at 4 PM.
