Richard "Dick" L. Chubb, 89, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Born in Millerstown, Pennsylvania, Dick was the youngest of nine children of the late Lucian H. and Edith R. (Sanders) Chubb. After graduating from high school, Dick joined the United States Army, serving on active duty from 1957-1959 and in the Army Reserves from 1959-1963.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Loretta (Rhoades) Chubb, in 1960, and together they shared 66 years of marriage this past September 2026. After attending Williamsport Technical School, where he studied drafting, Dick worked for a short time as a state surveyor. He and Loretta eventually made Lancaster their home in the early 1960s. Dick worked at RCA for several years before spending 37 years as a Laboratory Technician at Howmet Aluminum Corporation and later Alumax Aluminum, retiring in 2002.
After retirement, Dick volunteered at Overlook Golf Course for more than 20 years, where he became a familiar early-morning presence as a starter and ranger several days a week. He was a long-time member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he and Loretta served faithfully as ushers and greeters. Dick and Loretta also volunteered for many years at the Fulton Opera House as Fulton Ambassadors, a role he cherished. He took pride in ensuring every audience member felt welcomed.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a big sports fan-especially of the Phillies, Eagles, and Pitt Panthers-and enjoyed golf, traveling the world with Loretta, and attending every event he could for his children and grandchildren. He was a father and grandfather who always showed up at games, meets, shows, concerts, and everyday moments no matter where they were held. Dick will be remembered for his kindness, storytelling, quick wit, and always having a smile on his face.
In addition to his wife, Loretta, Dick is survived by his daughters: Marsha and her husband James Adams of Lititz, and Diane and her husband Jeffrey McFarland, of York; his grandchildren Brynn Gallagher (Evan), Derek Adams (Katie), Paige McFarland (Chris Hogge), and Chad McFarland (Eliese); and his great‑grandchildren Nora and Coen Gallagher.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 10-11 AM in the Community Room at Luther Acres, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11 AM. Interment will take place following the luncheon at Neffsville Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
