It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Philip Ralph Over Sr., a devoted husband, cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dedicated educator. Phil departed this life peacefully at the age of 88, on May 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, to Ralph C. and Mary Over, Phil was an athlete through his youth and a passionate advocate for education as a professional, having devoted over 37 years to teaching Algebra 1 and 2 in both Junior High and High School settings. He served not only as a beloved teacher but also as the athletic director for Upper Darby High School, where his love for sports and education flourished. He was known to inspire countless students and athletes alike as he shared his profound knowledge and unwavering encouragement. Phil's legacy extends beyond the classroom—he was an accomplished coach in baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling, always finding joy in mentoring young athletes, and was also a supporter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) where athletics and faith could come together.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Phil placed great importance on his faith. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, he served in the local community wherever the Lord placed him, most recently at Calvary Church upon his relocation to Lititz, where he lived a life reflective of his testimony. His faith was a guiding force in his life, inspiring those around him with his compassion and humility. A man of many talents, Phil held a deep appreciation for music throughout his life. He played the piano and trumpet, and his love for singing was showcased as a member of the choir. His engaging storytelling and great sense of humor brought light and laughter to those around him, creating cherished memories for family and friends.
He also, could build or fix just about anything. If there was something that was not in good repair, he could get it working. Many times, he would receive phone calls seeking homeowner advice. Phil is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Reneé Over; their children, Susan Dawson (Mark Benoit) of Agawam, MA, Philip Over Jr. (Jill), of Malvern, David Over (Peggy) of Lancaster; and his adoring grandchildren, Zachary Dawson (Lindsay Kramer-Dawson), Taylor P. Cauley (Joseph), (Philip) Ryan Over, Matthew Over, David Over, Jr., Keith Over, and Justin Over; great grandchildren, John Cauley, Cooper Dawson, and Emma Dawson; and his siblings Alan Over and Jeanne Smith. He was preceded in passing by his parents, a sister, Barbara Joan Pecor, and a grandson, Andrew J. Dawson.
In honor of Philip's remarkable life, a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 1022 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA, followed by a Graveside Service at Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Frazer, Pennsylvania. Prior to the services, a Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5 – 7 PM at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA.
Philip Ralph Over Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as his compassion, dedication, and laughter will echo in our hearts forever. May he Rest in Peace.
