Paul R. Malmendier

The family of Paul R. Malmendier wishes to announce his passing on September 18, 2026, at Hershey Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the son of Joseph and Beverly Malmendier (Alder). He was the devoted husband to Kelly Quinn and loving father to Eleanor and Kayla Malmendier.

Paul was a talented artist and metalsmith whose creativity and craftsmanship were an important part of who he was. He was a graduate of both the Philadelphia College of Art and Design and Cranbrook Academy of Art where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. Following Paul’s 1990 graduation from Cranbrook, he was employed by James Starr, owner of a prestigious decorative art metal studio in the Detroit area. Paul gained valuable experience fabricating custom made furniture and decorations for internal and external use, and loved spending time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

In 2000 Paul moved back to the Eastern Pennsylvania area to be closer to his aging parents, and established a name for himself with his company Art Metal Works. His business expanded after his work was featured on an episode of the HGTV series Modern Masters. He continued Art Metal Works until the 2008 recession hit; at that time he sought more reliable employment for the benefit of his family. For the past fifteen years he was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.

Paul was delightfully quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was known for his frugality which was a source of pride to him, and an occasional source of exasperation for his family! But thankfully he had bouts of generosity on occasion, especially when it came to his children. He found joy in simple pleasures. He developed a love of roller skating later in life and particularly enjoyed the Mount Gretna Roller Skating Rink. He also enjoyed making dinner for his daughters, playing Pickleball, strumming his Ukelele, fishing, watching movies, game nights with the family, weekends away with the “Game Club”, and playing Euchre with his wife and in-laws. Most of all he treasured the time he spent with his wife, children and family.

Paul will be deeply missed by his family, friends and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His absence will be felt in the empty chair, the missing voice around the Euchre table, the jokes that no one else could have thought to make and all the everyday moments that will never be quite the same. He leaves behind not only his accomplishments but something much more lasting-the memories, laughter and encouragement and love he gave to the people that mattered most to him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kelly Quinn (Goodreau); his daughters, Eleanor Malmendier and Kalya Malmendier; their mother, Patricia Malmendier (Reilly); his father, Joseph Malmendier; and his three step children, Alison Quinn, Nicholas Quinn, and Benjamin Quinn.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Andrea Shortt (Malmendier), his brother, Mark Malmendier and his mother, Beverly Malmendier (Alder).

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, beginning at 3 PM. The family will greet guests from 2 PM until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
