Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
"Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return." (Qur'an 2:156)
Today, we honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Nafees Jehan Khan, affectionately known as Mumma. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished matriarch of the Khan family, Mumma represents the last elder of her generation whose wisdom, strength, and steadfast faith guided us for nearly a century.
Mumma was preceded in death by her loving parents Haider Muhammed Khan and Shaukat Jehan Khan; beloved husband Hamid Ahmed Khan (Baba); and her siblings Bilqees Jehan Khan, Anees Jehan Khan, Raisa Jehan Khan, Afsar Muhammed Khan, and Akhtar Muhammed Khan.
She is survived by her three children Bakhtiyar (Shehnaz) Khan; Hadiya (Muhammed Wahid) Khan; and Khusrow (Tayyaba) Khan, along with 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mumma was born in Jaora, India on June 26, 1928, and raised in Hyderabad. Her remarkable journey took her from India to Pakistan after the Partition in 1947, and then to London, England in the mid-50s where she raised her family and enjoyed a vibrant social life. Mumma and Baba left England in the late 80s to enjoy their retirement along the beautiful Susquehanna River in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Through every season of her life, Mumma's unwavering faith in Allah, her resilience, and devotion to her family remained her greatest strengths.
She will be remembered for her generous heart, remarkable knowledge of homeopathic remedies, sharp wit, elegance, amazing wardrobe collection, and love of spicy food.
Though we grieve her passing, we are grateful for the countless memories and the time spent with her. Mumma leaves us with the enduring example of a life lived with faith, dignity, and compassion for others.
May Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings, envelop her in His infinite Mercy, grant her the highest place in Jannat al-Firdaws, and reunite her with Baba and all her loved ones. We pray that Allah grants comfort and patience to everyone mourning her loss.
Ameen.
