Mauricette R. Stauffer

Mauricette Stauffer, 98, died peacefully on September 7, 2026. A longtime resident of Lititz, she was the daughter of Maurice and Simone Roeder. She was born on August 12, 1928, and grew up on her family's farm in Compiègne, France.

She was eleven years old in 1940 when German forces invaded and occupied northern France. Adolf Hitler came to her hometown of Compiègne on June 21st to dictate surrender terms to the French delegation. Late in life she still had vivid memories of being forced to provide vegetables from the farm to German troops stationed nearby. The German uniforms and the hated swastikas on the town hall made an indelible impression on her.

After the war she moved to Paris to live with her sister, Simone, while doing some modeling. Her life changed in Montmartre when she met her future husband, Jack Stauffer, a U.S. Air Force military policeman stationed in France. They married in 1954 and made the voyage to America and his hometown of Lititz, where she was embraced by his parents and siblings. 

She became an American citizen, learned to speak English (while always keeping her beautiful French accent), and spent her working life at Warner Lambert. After retiring, Mauricette and Jack moved to Florida for a few years before returning to Lititz to be near their niece Lisa Gray and nephew Rob Johnson.

A deeply committed Christian, she was a member of Lititz Trinity Church. She loved to crochet and spent hours making gorgeous blankets for newborns and lap robes for veterans. She also enjoyed her frequent talks on the phone with her relatives in France. 

In addition to her husband of 71 years and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Simone, Jean, Jacques, and Monique. She is survived by a sister, Nicole, a nephew Jacky, and a niece Dominique in France plus cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States. 

Following her wishes, there will be no formal service. From Paris to Lititz, she will be laid to rest at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery near her beloved husband.
