Matthew Robert Kauffman, 46, of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born in Fullerton, California, he was the beloved son of Jeffrey Kauffman and Susan Lewis.
Matthew graduated from Hempfield High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University, following which he spent 17 years working in IT at Lift-All.
Matthew was truly one of a kind. Quiet and reserved, he was often an observer, someone who listened deeply and paid attention to what mattered. He expressed his love not through words, but through thoughtful, everyday actions.
He showed his care in simple yet meaningful ways: making a martini for his mother before she had to ask, stepping behind the grill to help his father, and cooking meals for his brother during life’s busy transitions. For his sister-in-law’s birthday, he created a heartfelt and humorous video, and for his niece, he had a special gift for finding thoughtful, one-of-a-kind presents that brought her joy.
Matthew loved spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed craft beers, experimenting with new recipes, and smoking meats for gatherings. Cooking was his way of bringing people together.
He also loved to travel, visiting China, India, Fiji, and New Zealand, while also cherishing time spent at the family cabin and Smith Mountain Lake. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, and embracing life’s adventures.
Creative from a young age, Matthew had a talent for art, later expressing it through custom designs and a deep appreciation for music.
Matthew’s love for his dogs, Lucy and Baxter, was profound. They were his companions and his world.
More than anything, Matthew had a kind and generous heart. His quiet humor, steady presence, and thoughtful nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey Kauffman and Susan Lewis, and his step-parents Kathy Kauffman and Barry Lewis; his brother Gregory Kauffman and Gregory’s wife Alekhya; his beloved nieces Anjali and Zara; his step-sisters Michelle Stone and Angie Barbush and their families; as well as extended relatives and friends.
A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, Lititz, PA, on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM, with visitation from 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pet Pantry of Lancaster.
Matthew’s life was defined by quiet acts of love, loyalty, and care. Though his time with us was far too short, the kindness he shared and the love he gave will remain with us always.
