Matthew F. Iovino, II

Matthew F. "Matt" Iovino, II, 54, of Reading, passed away on August 7, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wilkinsburg, PA, he was the son of Dr. Stephen and Judith (Betz) Iovino. He shared over 30 years of love and laughter with his life partner Peter P. Sunderman.

Matt was a 1990 graduate of Warwick High School where he began his love of music through marching band, chorus and lead roles in school musicals. He later obtained his bachelor's in music education degree from West Chester University where he was drum major and part of the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity. Matt was a music teacher for 20 years with Wilson School District where he inspired countless students through his teaching and the musicals he directed. He excelled at the piano, drums, trumpet, and especially voice. Matt was creative and loved design, helping with the set designing for Conrad Weiser for many years. More recently, Matt started his own company, Iovino Designs and Remodeling, Inc. where his talents really shined. He was funny, had the quickest wit, enjoyed collecting all things Santa Claus related, and loved his family more than anything.

Matt was a member and assistant director of Opus One: Berks Chamber Choir and a member of PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association).

In addition to his parents and life partner, Matt is survived by 3 brothers: Mark Iovino, Brian Iovino (the late Mary), and Darren Iovino (Danielle); his cherished nieces and nephew: Marin, Avery, Skylar, Ellisana, and Holton Iovino; bonus sisters: Nancy E. Sunderman, Ellen L. Sunderman, and Sue Cummings; and a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St, Reading, PA 19601. The family will receive guests beginning at 9 AM. Interment will be private.
