Mary Ann Oren, 94, of Washington Boro, PA passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 from natural causes at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Emmaus, PA, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Hichar) Fatula. She was the wife of Jess W. Oren, III who predeceased her in 2016 and whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 11, 2016.
Mary Ann was born in Emmaus, PA on July 9, 1932 and graduated from Emmaus High School in 1950. She attended Kutztown University, graduating in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in library science and obtained a master’s degree in elementary education from Millersville University in 1970. She was employed by the Palmyra (Lebanon) School District, the Columbia School District, and spent most of her working years as the librarian at the Bucher Elementary School in the Manheim Township School District. She retired in 1996.
She is survived by three sons, Jess W., IV, (Pamela), Catawissa, PA, James J., Washington Boro and John L. (Brenda), Harrisburg, PA, five grandchildren (Zachary (Merima Smajic) Oren, Nicholas (Kelly) Oren, Kristine Oren (Alex Nemtzow), Nathan (Angel) Oren, and David Oren) and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Justine Postal, Florida, several cousins and three nieces. She also maintained friendships throughout the years with a number of high school and college classmates.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Millersville, PA. In her younger days, Mary Ann was an accomplished recreational figure skater and a member of the Hershey Figure Skating Club, where she and Jess met. Mary Ann was for many years an active tennis player and a long-time member of the Lancaster Tennis and Yacht Club. She also was an active golfer, playing at many of the courses in the area. In addition to spending time with her family, Mary Ann enjoyed traveling, going out to restaurants, socializing with friends and living and working on the family’s property in Manor Township, where she maintained a large garden.
A service will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA on July 31, 2026 at 11 AM. Visitors will be received between 10 and 11 AM. Please omit flower donations. Contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the cemetery at Jacob’s Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, PA.
