Martin "Marty" James Heisey, 72, of Willow Street, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by his beloved wife, Debbie, and dear friends.
Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on March 29, 1954, Marty lived a life filled with curiosity, humor, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the people around him.
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Debra "Debbie" Heisey of 50 years; his cherished Corgi companion, Chappie; his sister, Dawn Hughes, and her husband, Ron Hughes; as well as his two beloved goddaughters and their children, who brought him great joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Louise "sissy" and niece, Christa.
A longtime photographer for LNP and Lancaster Online, formerly the Lancaster New Era, Marty spent 33 years capturing moments, stories, and the spirit of the Lancaster community through his lens. His talent for photography and eye for human connection preserved countless memories that will continue to live on for generations.
From an early age, Marty's adventurous spirit and curiosity were unmistakable. His sister fondly remembers his chemistry sets and model rockets, much to their mother's concern that he might one day blow up the house. He participated in Little League baseball, football, basketball, and later excelled in track and field at Donegal High School, where he set school records in the high jump and long jump; accomplishments that eventually earned him induction into the Donegal High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Marty was known for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh. He loved fly fishing, hiking, traveling, baseball, bluegrass music, and the beauty of nature. A devoted fan of the Lancaster Stormers from the team's earliest days, he rarely missed a game from his favorite seats. He was also a loyal Arizona Diamondbacks fan.
Whether through photography, music, storytelling, or simply sharing laughter with those around him, Marty had a gift for making life feel meaningful and memorable.
He leaves behind a legacy of beautiful images, enduring friendships, music, laughter, and treasured memories that will continue to bring comfort and joy to all who knew and loved him.
