Lorraine Ehrenfried Bergstrom

Lorraine Ehrenfried Bergstrom, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday October 2, 2026 at Luther Acres Retirement Community in Lititz, Pennsylvania, where she had resided with her late husband since 2006.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on August 2, 1932, she was the only child of Henry A. and Theresa Gegg Ehrenfried. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Roderick H. Bergstrom. Surviving Lorraine are her children Eric (Linda McGinnis), Karen Beyer (Jay Beyer), Mark (Amy Keller), Lisa Russell (Capt. Robin L. Russell, USN (Ret.)), and Steven (Tonya Lombardo); nine grandchildren, Michael Bergstrom (Kasey), Matthew Bergstrom, Valerie Tully (Patrick), Kimberly Tierney (Nate), Nicole Russell, LT Daniel J. Russell, USN (Kristina), LT David L. Russell, USN (Megan), Wellington Bergstrom, and Toby Bergstrom; and six great-grandchildren, Jack Bergstrom, Henry Bergstrom, Max Bergstrom, Anakin Tully, Oliver Tully, and Cooper Russell.

Lorraine grew up in Lancaster City and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1950. After graduation, she was employed by Armstrong Cork Company until her marriage to Roderick H. Bergstrom, son of the late Harry G. and Ellen Ellison Bergstrom of Lander, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 1956, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lancaster.

Lorraine and Rod lived in Lancaster for three years, then built a home in Leola, where they lived for forty-five years before moving to Luther Acres in Lititz. Lorraine was a stay-at-home mom until their children were in school. She then worked for the Conestoga Valley School District, retiring in June 1991 as cafeteria manager at J.E. Fritz Elementary School. Lorraine and Rod were married for sixty-six years before his passing in 2023.

Following their retirements, Lorraine and Rod built a cabin and a "sugar shanty" in their woodlot in Warren County and resumed a family tradition of making maple syrup each spring, a practice started by Rod's grandfather and continued by his father and his brothers, Jack and Marvin. Lorraine enjoyed sugaring and relaxing at the "cottage," but also found time for cooking, baking, entertaining, reading, gardening, and spending time with her extended family. She also enjoyed traveling, and she and Rod took numerous trips to Canada to visit relatives, toured historical sites and parks in the United States, sailed on an Inside Passage cruise of Alaska, and spent three weeks on an Elderhostel genealogy research trip to Sweden.
