Kirby M. Kiick

Kirby M. Kiick, 84, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026. Born in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Elda L. (Miller) and Charles G. Kiick. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith L. (Haas) Kiick, with whom he shared just shy of 50 years of marriage.

Kirby earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Gettysburg University and a Masters degree in Education. He dedicated over 34 years of his life to public education as a science teacher and coach in the East Stroudsburg Area School District. He left a lasting impression on his students, colleagues and everyone he met.

His summer job during the 1970’s and 1980’s was as the Activities and Social Director at Mountain Lake House Resort, where he created unforgettable experiences for the guests while also forming lifelong friendships. Known for his gregarious personality, Kirby had a magnetic presence—people were naturally drawn to his warmth, humor, and energy.

Beyond the classroom, Kirby was very involved in athletics and mentorship. During his teaching career he also served as Head Track and Field Coach, Junior High Football Coach, Assistant Wrestling Coach and as a Track Official. He was an active member of the East Stroudsburg Education Association (ESEA), and the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). After retiring, he volunteered, delivering for Meals on Wheels. Kirby played on a senior softball league well into his 70’s and was especially proud of his participation in the Lancaster Senior Games.

A faithful member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Kirby lived a life grounded in family, community, service, and connection.

He enjoyed traveling with his family and planned trips for them to spend quality time together. “Kiick Family Fun Fest” was a long-standing, annual tradition that was filled with lots of games, good food and relaxation.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Kiick and her husband Michael Scotko, of Collingswood, NJ; his grandsons, Yegor and Kostya Beyer-Kiick, and their father (his son in law) Rick Beyer of Rising Sun, Maryland. He is also survived by his brother, James Kiick, of Maryland, and his brother in law, Robert Haas of Leesburg, Florida, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Kirby was preceded in death by three siblings; Larry, Sylvia and Peggy, and his daughter, Kristi Kiick, who passed away in January of this year.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 27th at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received from 10:15am to 10:45am
