Karin J. Krueger

Karin J. Krueger, 89, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at The Glen at Willow Valley. Born in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ernst and Martha (Ringleben) Krueger.

In 1960, Karin left Germany and moved to the United States, beginning a new chapter of her life in New York. Soon after arriving, she reconnected with her childhood friend, Irmgard (Burgdorf) Nelson, who was living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Stanley. New York remained her home for more than six decades and suited her independent spirit, intellectual curiosity, and love of culture. Karin built a successful career with ITT, where her intelligence and professionalism earned the respect of her colleagues. Her career and adventurous spirit allowed her to travel extensively throughout the world.

Karin's friendship with Irmgard and Stanley became one of the most important relationships of her life. Over time, she embraced the Nelsons as part of her extended family, and they welcomed her as one of their own. For more than sixty years, they shared holidays, celebrations, laughter, and traditions, creating cherished memories and a sense of family that remained an important part of Karin’s life.

Although she built a life in America, Karin remained deeply connected to her family and friends in Europe. An avid reader and writer, she was also a faithful correspondent, keeping in touch through letters, phone calls, visits, and trips home. These connections remained important throughout her life, particularly the treasured time she shared with her beloved sister, Gunda.

Karin never lost her curiosity about the world or her enthusiasm for the things she enjoyed. In retirement, she embraced New York’s theaters, concerts, lectures, and cultural life. In 2021, she moved to Willow Street, Pennsylvania, bringing her closer to the extended family she had known and loved for so many years. There, she enjoyed watching tennis and a good British mystery, lively conversation, and, almost always, coffee and cake.

Those who knew Karin will remember a remarkable woman who crossed an ocean to build a life of her own while maintaining deep connections to friends and loved ones in both the United States and Europe. Fiercely independent, kind, and generous, she was known for her dry sense of humor, sharp wit, and adventurous spirit. Her warmth, intelligence, and friendship will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst and Martha Krueger; her sisters, Marion and Roberta; and her dear friend, Stanley Nelson.

Karin’s family will gather privately to remember and celebrate her life.
