Josephine A. "Joanne" Celotto

Josephine “Joanne” A. (Sambucini) Celotto, 76, of Millersville, PA, danced her way into heaven on Sept. 28. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Noia) and Enrico Sambucini. She was the beloved wife of the late Aldo “Al” Celotto, with whom she shared over 42 years of marriage before his passing.

Joanne received her BS degree from Brooklyn College and dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as an elementary school teacher; her love for children allowed her to open her heart and home as a daycare provider and as a foster parent to many children over the years. Joanne had a nurturing spirit and found immense joy in helping and caring for those around her.

A faithful member of St Joseph Catholic Church and a servant of her Savior, Jesus Christ, Joanne lived her faith through both word and action. She was passionate about advocating for pre-born children and proudly led her family each year in the annual March for Life, in Washington, DC. Joanne was also highly active in the political realm, volunteering her time to campaign for political figures who best fit Christian standards, no matter the political affiliation behind them. She was passionate, and her passion was very contagious!

Joanne especially loved spending time with her family, trips to the beach, finding treasures at yard sales, reading, dancing, teaching, and creating lasting memories with those she loved most.

Joanne is survived by a sister and 2 brothers and also by her 10 children: Athena Lavelle, wife of Greg; Marie Dermo, wife of Robin; Annie Celotto; Kahlil Celotto, husband of Shelly; Anthony Celotto, husband of Vanessa; Thomas Celotto; Jason Celotto husband of Corinne; George Celotto; Raymond Celotto; and Ohnika Celotto; along with 16 cherished grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Sat. Oct. 3 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Family and friends will be received from 10 am until the time of service. Joanne will be laid to rest beside her husband at Conestoga UM Cemetery.
