Joseph M. Olivio

Joseph M. Olivio, 81, of Lancaster, PA, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at his home, holding the hand of his beloved wife. Through his faith in God and His son Jesus, Joe had become a member of God’s family, believing in the promise of eternal life at the resurrection.

Son of the late Joseph T. and Esther M. (Tirelli) Olivio, Joe was a man who found happiness in spending time with those he loved and enjoying life's simple pleasures. In 1995, he married Darlene (Kinsey) Olivio, and together they shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Whether reeling in a giant striped bass, posing for a newspaper picture of his famously elite vegetable garden, basking in the sun at the beach, or cooking up a traditional Italian dish that only he knew the recipe to, Joe was filled with many talents and hobbies. He was a master of several trades; electrician, carpenter, real estate agent, manager, optician, gardener, and the list goes on. Joe could fix anything. He even built a large second story deck by himself, no experience necessary. He was known for singing songs on demand, mostly those he made up, and dancing around any space to his favorite music. He was a rhyming machine that his grandkids loved. Joe had the ability to brighten a room with his unconventional, funny antics. He truly loved life and found meaningful moments in the small details.

Joe treasured his family. He will be cherished forever by his wife, Darlene; children, Laurie Huxta-Forbes (Michael) of Massachusetts and Ryan Huxta (Tanya) of Pennsylvania; his seven beloved grandchildren, Nola, Noah, Grady, Lucy, Lennon, Boden, and Tovin, all who endearingly called him Poppop; his brother, Robert Olivio (Janice) of New Jersey; and three nieces, Monica, Amanda, and Andrea. His kindness and helpfulness, quiet strength, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Shayne and Abby of Heartland Hospice, as well as caregivers Holly, James, Lois and Maria, for the exceptional care, compassion, and love they provided to Joe and his family. Their loving dedication and support brought great comfort during a difficult time and will always be remembered.

Private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow this fall.
