Joseph L. Mackey, Sr.

Joseph L. Mackey, Sr., 88, of Millersville, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Penn State Lancaster Medical Center.

Born in Rocky Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy (Morehouse) Mackey. He was the loving husband of the late Margaret (Craig) Mackey who passed away in 2015.

Joseph worked for Armstrong World Industries for many years as a Research Tech before retiring. Scouting was one of Joseph's greatest passions. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America to which he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He proudly served as Scoutmaster of Troop 268. In recognition of his service, he earned the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, and completed Wood Badge training where he earned the Silver Beaver award. He also served as County Commissioner for the Pennsylvania Dutch Council, where he continued his commitment to the Scouting program. Joseph also enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an active member of The Pennsylvania Bass Masters. Association. He was a proud 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Millersville Lodge No. 476. Joseph's greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them. He especially cherished the time he shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren

He is survived by his children, Pamela (Andrew) Conner, Jeffrey (Michelle) Mackey, and Joseph Mackey, Jr.; his sister, Dorothy Shaffer; brothers, John (Margaret) Mackey and Larry (Shirley) Mackey; his brother-in-law, William Wisor; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughter, Margaret Spieles; his sister, Maryanne Mackey-Wisor; and his grandson, Kevin Spieles, Jr.

Friends and family will be received for a time of visitation from 1PM to 2PM on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George Street, Millersville, PA 17551. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 2PM.
