José Pablo Madrigal, 91, of Leola, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 22, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Adela Madrigal, and eight of his nine children- Piedad Madrigal, José Luciano and wife María, Cándida (Candy), Ramón and partner Amalia, Patricia and husband Dana Kauffman, Diego and partner Nelly, Pablo, and his beloved youngest, Claudia M. He also leaves behind five grandchildren- Jessica and husband Ben Lyman, Ryan J. Bair, Jennifer, Ana Isabela and Brandi; five great-granddaughters- Marlowe, Ramsay, Chandler, Prescott, and Kynzlee; three sisters- Erlinda Madrigal, Ligia Pérez, and Rosaidalia Madrigal, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first daughter, María, and his sister, Sucel Hernández.

José Pablo Madrigal was born to Pablo Emilio Madrigal and Cándida Rosa Puerta in Segovia, Antioquia, a small town north of Medellín, Colombia. He contributed to his household from a very young age, working as a welder alongside his father. He was a talented athlete, and was even scouted to play for his state team, but pushed aside those dreams to fulfill his responsibility to his family. This commitment to family made José Pablo a truly exceptional husband and father, always acting in the best interest of his loved ones. He sought to provide his family with better economic and educational opportunities, and in 1971, emigrated to the United States to work. His wife and children followed in 1974 as part of a family reunification provision granted to foreign workers.

José Pablo was a well studied mechanic, and worked for many years in a textile factory in New Holland, where he established himself as a skilled and widely sought after employee. He later worked for Sperry New Holland, where he stayed for 20 years until his retirement. His skill, discipline and impeccable work ethic made José Pablo an indispensable part of every team he was on, and his legacy of hard work has been passed down to his children and grandchildren, whom among them hold high school diplomas, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and a PhD. Not only was he able to provide better futures for his children, but José Pablo paved the way for his extended relatives and many other close-knit Colombian families to do the same. In taking that leap of faith to emigrate to the United States, he became one of the pioneers of the established Colombian community that exists in Lancaster today.

José Pablo was a prime example of what it means to be a man of honor and integrity. His commitment to his family was unmatched, and his devotion to the Catholic Church was admirably steadfast. He belonged to both Iglesia Católica San Juan Bautista in Lancaster, PA, and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in New Holland, PA. José Pablo considered himself a Marian, one who is devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He died on the feast day modernly known as the Queenship of Mary, a celebration of the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. May God and the Virgin Mary be with him now and always, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.

A viewing and requiem mass will be held for him at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on September 5, 2020 at 10:30am and 12pm, respectively. Due to Covid-19, space will be limited and safety guidelines will be enforced. A live stream of the services will be available at www.snyderfuneralhome.com . Monetary donations in his memory can be made to both parishes, and flowers for the services can be sent to Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA.
