John D. Hohman of Lancaster, PA died on March 27, 2026 at Homestead Village in Lancaster at the age of 84. Known to most who knew him as Jack, he was born in Pottsville PA on May 13, the son of the late Dr George C and Ruth Reichard Hohman. He was the husband of Carol Ann (Welsh) Hohman, originally of Columbia, PA. Jack and Carol Ann were married for 61 years.
Jack graduated from Pottsville High School in 1959, received his BS degree in English from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia in 1963, and earned his MBA in Hospital Administration from the George Washington University in Washington DC in 1966. Spanning a career of 40 years, he was a member of the executive staffs of several hospitals in Pennsylvania including York Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, as well as Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield New Jersey. He also worked for the Franciscan Health System in Aston, PA and two of its Philadelphia hospitals, St. Agnes Medical Center and Nazareth Hospital. Upon retirement he was an independent contractor in project facilitation for several healthcare institutions. During his professional career, Jack was a member of several state and national healthcare associations, civic and community organizations, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Pennsylvania Catholic Health Association having served on its’ board for 10 years. Jack also served as an adjunct instructor for several years for the graduate program in healthcare administration at St. Joseph University at Albright College in Reading.
Jack was an active parishioner of St. Leo the Great Church of Lancaster since 1979 and the former president of its Parish Council. He was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz and sang in its’ Hobby Chor of which he was Treasurer and chairman of its annual golf outing. He was a longtime member of the Lancaster Senior Golf Association and served as its’ secretary. In addition to golf, Jack enjoyed playing bridge, college and professional sports, especially his beloved Philly teams, travel, music, and frequent visits to the New Jersey shore.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by two sons, James C. husband of Kathleen and William G. husband of Maureen. Jack is predeceased by his son John D Jr. husband of Jeannine. Jack has 10 grandchildren: John D. III, Amanda, Nicholas, Christopher, Alexandra, Andrew, Ryan, Connor, Brendan, and William and three great grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his sister, Dr Mary Jane Lupton, wife of Dr Kenneth H. Baldwin of Cape May, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Leo the Great Church in Lancaster on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 11:30am. Friends are invited to extend their sympathies to the family in the rear of the church beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jack's memory to the Sisters of St. Francis, 609 Convent Road, Aston Twp, PA 19014 or to any healthcare charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory of Lancaster.
