JoAnn Thompson Greer, 94, of Willow Valley Retirement Communities, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026. In her final days, she was surrounded by the love and care of her devoted family.
Born in Bel Air, Maryland, JoAnn was the only child of the late Clifton and Emma Lou Thompson. She was the devoted wife and best friend of Wiley (Jack) Greer, with whom she shared 69 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2020.
JoAnn attended Bel Air High School, where she was crowned May Queen, a reflection of the grace and beauty she carried throughout her life. Upon graduation, she continued her education at Baltimore Business College and worked for the Bel Air School System before marrying Jack in 1951. As the wife of a U.S. Navy officer, JoAnn embraced the adventures and sacrifices of military life with unwavering strength and optimism. In 1957, the family settled into a new chapter when Jack joined the DuPont Company. Through every season of life, JoAnn's greatest joy was being a loving wife and mother. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and unconditional support, always making family her highest priority.
JoAnn treasured time spent with family and friends and held especially dear the memories of visiting her parents at their beloved Maryland farm, Glen Loch. Those visits remained among her happiest memories throughout her life. Those who knew JoAnn will remember her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, sharp mind, and remarkable kindness. She had a way of making others feel welcomed and loved, and her generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her warmth, laughter, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
JoAnn is survived by her loving children: Luiann (Lee Dellon) of Henderson, Nevada; Zachary (Eileen Holleran) of Au Train, Michigan; and Nita (Clipper LaMotte) of West Grove, Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Sussman of Wellesley, Massachusetts; Lauren (Matt) Karpinski / Majarian of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; and Kelli (Alex) Jupp of Rye, New York as well as nine adored great-grandchildren, all who brought her immense pride and joy.
JoAnn and Jack will be laid to rest together at Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate their lives on September 7, 2026 - a date made even more meaningful as it would have marked their 75th wedding anniversary. Details to follow. Kindly omit flowers.
Though JoAnn's life spanned nearly a century, it was never measured by years alone. It was measured by the love she gave so freely, the laughter she shared so often, and the family she cherished above all else. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
