Jean Mable Smith

Jean Mable Smith, 86, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Martha (Bisker) Mable and Thomas Mable. She shared more than 56 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Larry. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Jean dedicated her career to bookkeeping, a profession she enjoyed throughout her life. She began her career with the Lancaster Newspaper and later retired as the bookkeeper for Showcase of Fashions, working alongside Peggy Steinman. She was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the friendships she made throughout the years.

A faithful member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Jean found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader who always had a good book nearby and enjoyed playing games with family and friends. She loved collecting bells, watching hummingbirds visit her yard, and visiting Ocean City, Maryland, where many treasured family memories were made. From 1978 until 2017, she was a proud member of the Jewels Bowling League, where she formed many lasting friendships.

Above all else, Jean's greatest joy was her family. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Whether celebrating holidays, hosting family gatherings, or simply enjoying each other's company, those moments meant the world to her. Jean had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome. She loved opening her home to family and friends, and her warmth, generosity, and kind heart made every gathering one to remember.

In addition to her devoted husband, Larry, Jean is lovingly remembered by her son, Doug Smith and his wife, Adrienne, of Lancaster; her daughter, Kelly Leone and her husband, Edward, of Lancaster; her grandchildren, Claudia Smith, Benjamin Smith, Gloria Leone, and Anthony Leone; her sister, Josie Engle and her husband, Robert, of Star Tannery, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Boomer. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas (Pat) , Kenneth (Jane) and George Mable (Jo Ann); and her sister, Mary Maurer (George).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10AM until the time of Mass.
