Janet Gitomer died peacefully on September 12, 2026, at her home in Lauderhill, Florida, at the age of 98. Born in Vineland, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Michael Levy and Esther (Sperling) Levy. Her father came from Leeds, England and her mother came from London, England.
Janet was married to David Gitomer who died in 1994. Dave was from Millville, New Jersey. She had a sister by the name of Eleanor Ray of San Angelo, Texas, who preceded her in death. Jan was an admin at J.P. McCaskey High School for 22 years. She loved working with the students. For the past 18 years, she was the senior coordinator for the senior group at the Lancaster Jewish Community Center, coordinating programs for the senior adults.
She graduated from Vineland High School, Vineland, NJ in 1946.
A member of Temple Beth El for many years, and a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El, Hadassah, Lancaster Jewish Community Center and P.A.S.R.
Some of her favorite pastimes were playing Scrabble with a group for over 14 years and going out for lunch or dinner with friends.
Janet is survived by two children, Shelley I Miller, wife of Ronald M. Miller of Delray Beach, Florida and Michael E. Gitomer, husband of Judith Gitomer, of Lititz, PA.
A Funeral Service honoring Janet will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, beginning at 11 AM. The family will receive guests from 10 – 11 AM. Interment to follow at Beth El Cemetery in Lititz. Please omit flowers and consider memorial contributions in Janet’s name to the Diabetes Association, the Parkinsons Association, or Temple Beth El of Lancaster.
