James S Williams

James S. Williams, 82, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Jim, Jimmy or Mister Williams, as he was sometimes known, leaves behind a legacy of dedication, humor, and devotion to his loved ones.

Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Jennie (Douglas) Williams. Jim served for six years in the Army National Guard with the 109th Field Artillery, Battery B. He began his career working in drywall installation and construction in Belmont, New Jersey, before returning to Pennsylvania to pursue his passion for mechanical trades.

Jim owned and operated an ARCO service station franchise in Kingston until it was lost in the flooding from Hurricane Agnes in 1972. He later became the head mechanic at Stanton Lanes Bowling Center, where he dedicated 35 years of service and made countless friends.

In the 70's thru the 90's, Jim enjoyed the camaraderie he found by being part of various bowling leagues, especially the team known as "Jennie's Candies". In 1975, his bowling talent was showcased on the WNEP-TV former show "Bowling for Dollars" and he ended as a top money winner. He was a longtime member of the Wyoming Valley Bowling Association and honored to be chosen as a "Hall of Fame" member in 1975. Known for his quick wit and storytelling, Jim had a way of making everyone laugh and in retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre - or the "club" as he referred to it-where he made many lasting friendships.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Kelly and son-in-law Tom Fromuth, grandsons Jackson and James Trout, a cousin John Chervak, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim's Life, for family and friends, will be held on Saturday, April 25th, from 12:00PM-2:00PM, at Mohegan Sun Casino Wilkes-Barre, in the Season's meeting room. Memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to Hospice & Community Care, Development Office, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, please note "In memory of James S. Williams" in the memo.
