Jack C. Coffin

Jack C. Coffin, of Lititz, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on April 18, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Vineland, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Caryl and Daisy (Sparrow) Coffin.

Jack was a man of strong character and commitment. He first met the love of his life, Geraldine “Gerrie,” during their high school years. Their love story flourished even while he was stationed in Füssen Germany as Sergeant and Instructor in the U.S. Army’s Ordnance School., as the two remained close through heartfelt letters. Upon his return, they were united in marriage on June 25, 1955, embarking on a journey of nearly 76 years together, 71 of those as husband and wife.

Educated at the Drexel Institute of Technology, Jack earned a B.S. in Physics. In 1963, he moved to Lancaster and built a distinguished career as an engineer at RCA. There, he contributed to innovative projects, including a patented photodetector non-responsive to Cerenkov radiation. Lancaster became a cherished home where he and Gerrie found deep joy; so much so that even when his engineering career took him to Fort Wayne, Indiana, he chose to commute to remain rooted there. After retiring as an engineer Jack transitioned his professional talents to real estate, serving as a dedicated agent in the local community. He also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to his professional achievements, Jack was a passionate outdoorsman. He found great fulfillment in photography, camping, hiking, and gardening. As a dedicated Boy Scout leader, he guided many young men on their paths to becoming Eagle Scouts. Jack was also an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lancaster, where he shared his faith and kindness with all.

In addition to his loving wife, Gerrie, Jack is survived by his three cherished children: Vicki Coffin of Basking Ridge, NJ; Carol Coffin of Mountville, PA; and Doug Coffin (Susan) of Oxford, OH. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Ryan Grippo (Michelle), Jared Coffin, Nathaniel Coffin, Emily Fink, Ethan Coffin (Kristin), and Isaac Coffin; and one great-grandchild, Silas Schurgast. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Coffin, and his sister, Doris Fergona.
