Con profundo dolor y a la vez con inmensa gratitud por una vida larga y llena de amor, anunciamos el fallecimiento de Isabel “Mamota” Pérez, quien partió en paz el 18 de febrero de 2026 en su hogar, rodeada del cariño de su familia.

Nacida el 19 de noviembre de 1924 en Dajabón, República Dominicana, Mamota fue una mujer fuerte, independiente y de carácter firme. Decía las cosas sin rodeos, con esa franqueza tan suya, pero siempre con un corazón generoso y dispuesto a cuidar de todos los que la rodeaban. Fue una mujer incansable, trabajadora y protectora, su presencia llenaba cualquier espacio.

En su tierra natal ejerció como enfermera, profesión que reflejaba su vocación natural de servicio. Tras emigrar a los Estados Unidos, continuó dedicando su vida al cuidado de los demás, convirtiéndose en la cuidadora y guía amorosa de todos sus bisnietos. Su hogar fue siempre un refugio de amor, disciplina y enseñanzas inolvidables.

Fue ampliamente conocida y querida por la comunidad de Lancaster, donde dejó una huella imborrable a través de sus bodegas ubicadas en Duke, Lime, Ross y Strawberry Street. Allí no solo atendía a sus clientes, sino que construía amistades, ofrecía consejos y brindaba apoyo a quien lo necesitara. Para muchos, fue más que una comerciante: fue un pilar de la comunidad.

Amaba profundamente a su país y llevaba a la República Dominicana en el corazón. Disfrutaba escribir canciones y cantarlas a su familia, regalándoles momentos de alegría que hoy se convierten en recuerdos eternos. Su voz, sus historias y su risa quedarán grabadas para siempre en quienes tuvieron la bendición de escucharla.

En sus últimos años fue cuidada con inmenso amor y dedicación por su nieta, Isabel Parra, y también por su hija Austria Guzmán, quien cariñosamente era llamada “Tía” o “Mamota”, siguiendo el legado y el espíritu de su madre.

Le precedieron en la muerte su querido nieto, Stayson N. Cabrera, así como sus hijos Enrique Álvarez y Ana “Mashila” Guzmán.

Deja en vida a sus hijos Manuel Guzmán, Ualidad Guzmán y Austria Guzmán; nietos Isabel Parra, Eddy Matos, Steven Cabrera y ademas nietos, bisnietos y tataranietos, quienes fueron profundamente bendecidos al experimentar su amor, su fortaleza y su ejemplo.

Mamota deja un legado de valentía, sacrificio, música, comunidad y amor incondicional. Será profundamente extrañada, pero su espíritu vivirá para siempre en cada historia contada, en cada canción recordada y en cada acto de cuidado hacia los demás.

With deep sorrow and at the same time with immense gratitude for a long life full of love, we announce the death of Isabel "Mamota" Pérez, who departed peacefully on February 18, 2026, at home, surrounded by the affection of her family.

Born on November 19, 1924, in Dajabón, Dominican Republic, Mamota was a strong, independent woman with a firm character. She said things bluntly, with that frankness that was so hers, but always with a generous heart and willingness to take care of everyone around her. She was a tireless, hardworking and protective woman, her presence filled any space.

In her homeland she worked as a nurse, a profession that reflected her natural vocation for service. After immigrating to the United States, she continued to dedicate her life to caring for others, becoming the loving caregiver and guide of all her great-grandchildren. Her home was always a haven of love, discipline, and unforgettable teachings.

She was widely known and loved by the Lancaster community, where she left an indelible mark through her corner stores located on Duke, Lime, Ross, and Strawberry Street. There she not only served her clients, but also built friendships, offered advice and provided support to anyone who needed it. For many, she was more than a merchant: she was a pillar of the community.

She deeply loved her country and carried the Dominican Republic in her heart. She enjoyed writing songs and singing them to her family, giving them moments of joy that today become eternal memories. Her voice, her stories and her laughter will be forever engraved in those who were blessed to listen to her.

In her last years she was cared for with immense love and dedication by her granddaughter, Isabel Parra, and also by her daughter Austria Guzmán, who was affectionately called "Tia" or "Mamota", following the legacy and spirit of her mother.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Stayson N. Cabrera, as well as her children Enrique Álvarez and Ana "Mashila" Guzmán.

She leaves behind her children Manuel Guzmán, Ualidad Guzmán and Austria Guzmán, grandchildren Isabel Parra, Eddy Matos, Steven Cabrera and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who were deeply blessed to experience her love, her strength and her example.

Mamota leaves a legacy of courage, sacrifice, music, community and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on forever in every story told, in every song remembered, and in every act of caring for others.

A viewing will take place from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, followed by the funeral at 2:30 pm with The Rev. Luis R. Rodriguez officiating, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment will follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
