Harry Carl Meyer

It is with the greatest of sadness that the Meyer family announces the peaceful passing of their patriarch, Harry Carl Meyer, age 97 of Homestead Village, Lancaster, PA who passed away on Tuesday October 6th 2026 at Lancaster General Hospital with his loving wife by his side.

Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the only child of the late Carl E. Meyer and Bernice Meyer (Koch). Harry was the beloved husband of Donna L. Meyer for a little over 44 years of marriage; loving father of Barbara Cook, and Karen Daniels (Richard); loving father-in-law to Dennis Busel and Michael Biase; devoted grandfather of Deanna Harkel (John), Thompson Daniels (Natalie), Ryan Cook, Julie Boucher (Benjamin), Tristan Busel, Jacob Busel and Emilie Busel; and great grandfather of three boys; and a devoted Daddy his very special beloved cat, Mittsie. Harry was preceded in death by his daughters Sherrie Busel and Wendy Biase.

Harry proudly served his country from 1948 - 1951 as a member of the Army's 88th Military Police Company, X Corps serving in the Korean War -"The Chosin Few". A more patriotic individual would be hard to find.

Harry acquired his work ethics at a very young age working in all four of the Meyer's Delicatessen's in NY & NJ. After returning from Korea, he worked for Nabisco in Northern NJ for a short time. In 1957 Harry entered into the Insurance field with Allstate Insurance Company in northern NJ and was recruited from Allstate to become the Philadelphia Branch Manager of CNA Insurance Company in 1977.

Harry's 1st retirement was from CNA Insurance Companies in 1994 as Group Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He then became a consultant for Toyota/Chiyoda, AlOl Nissa Dowa Mitzi Sumo Tommo Insurance Company located in Japan until his 2nd retirement in 2012. After moving to Homestead Village in 2021 Harry dedicated many years volunteering his time and talents to his fellow residents during Medicare Open Enrollment. His multifaceted Insurance background was his gift, which he loved to share with all who needed assistance in any insurance related issue. 

A celebration of Harry's life will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 2 pm at the Bachman Center of Homestead Village, 633 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. A private interment will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, NJ at a later date.
