Gladys F. Gillis

Gladys Frances Gillis (Hoover), 81, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Manasek) Hoover. Gladys later made her home in Lancaster, PA. She was the loving wife of the late Albert W. Gillis, Jr.

Gladys was a member of the Red Rose Antique Car Club and the Hershey Region AACA. Gladys enjoyed traveling and spending quiet moments reading. But what truly made her special was her personality and natural ability to connect with others. She could strike up a conversation with anyone. Her kindness, warmth, and friendly spirit left a lasting impression wherever she went, and she brought comfort and happiness to so many through the simple gift of conversation.

She is survived by her son, Jeremiah McCarthy; her sister, Mary Schaefer; her nieces, Darlene (Jack) Mandel and Anna (Michael) Colasante; her stepdaughters, Lisa (Dave) Renninger and Lori (Chris) Smith; various nieces and nephews; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Albert; her son, Michael; and her brother, George.

Gladys’ family would like to extend their gratitude to John Miller for his help throughout the years. They would also like to offer a thank you to Grace Krebs for being a special friend to Gladys.

Services will be held privately at the request of the family.
